Wagner Mercenary Group Leader Dies In Suspicious Aeroplane Crash…

Social media sites linked to the Wagner mercenary group say his private plane was shot down by Russian air defences and Prigozhin died “as a result of actions of traitors to Russia”.

Senior Wagner commander Dmitry Utkin – who founded the group in 2014 – was also apparently on the passenger list. An investigation has been launched into the crash and emergency services are searching the scene.

Prigozhin headed a mutiny on 23-24 June, moving his troops from Ukraine, seizing the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, and threatening to march on Moscow. Afterwards, several Russia-watchers have described him as a “dead man walking” since the mutiny.

“Revenge”, commented CIA director William Burns, “is a dish Putin prefers served cold”.

None of this, of course, is proof that Prigozhin and his entourage were deliberately targeted. It could just be a case of ‘Russian suicide’ – similar to mysterious Cold War cases where people ‘fell down elevator shafts onto some bullets’.

You live by the sword, you die in a fiery aeroplane crash.
