A Youtuber in California who posted a viral video of himself deliberately crashing an aeroplane has been jailed.
Trevor Jacob, 30, was sentenced to six months in prison on December 4 2023 after having recorded himself jumping out of a plane, intentionally crashing the vehicle for a viral stunt.
The California State Attorney’s office said that Jacob flew for about 35 minutes on November 24 2021 before ejecting himself from the airplane and parachuting to the ground over the Los Padres National Forest.
In the video, Jacob can be seen flashing a bag of cannabis to camera and laughing before exiting mid-flight. Once he returns to ground, Jacob tells his followers “that was the gnarliest day of my life!”
Jacob plead guilty in May to destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation.
He originally told authorities that the aircraft had lost power and that he was unable to find a safe place to land, therefore choosing to parachute out of the plane.
Video of the stunt posted to YouTube was recorded through cameras placed on the plane’s wings.

A trained pilot, Jacob has since had his license revoked following the incident.
After repeatedly lying over the whereabouts of the downed aeroplane, Jacobs eventually conceded he knew the location as he had hiked to the crash site to recover footage.
He also admitted to visiting the the wreckage on a second occasion with a friend to transport and destroy what was left of the plane.
Jacobs brought the remnants of the plane to Lompoc City Airport in Santa Barbara where he preceded to cut it into pieces.
He then disposed of the plane’s parts in public bins dotted around the airport.
The Youtuber admitted in his plea agreement that he had done this with the intention of obstructing authorities from investigating the crash.
Jacob’s video, ‘I Crashed My Airplane’, currently has over 4.4 million views. A trained pilot, Jacob has since had his license revoked following the incident.
