Fans attending relegated Port Vale’s final game of the season have been taunted from the skies — as a plane circles Vale Park trailing a cheeky banner. The banner, apparently sent skyward by a group of Stoke City supporters, carries the message ‘She stood there laughing – N40’.

The line is taken from The Potters’ great anthem, ‘Delilah’, with the plane apparently being sent by Stoke City’s Naughty 40 supporters group. Vale were relegated away to Bolton Wanderers last week.

In 2018, Port Vale fans sent a plane carrying a similar banner over the Potteries, as Stoke City were relegated from the Premier League. ‘We stood there laughing,’ read the Vale supporter’s banner, albeit a week late and on a day Stoke City were not playing.

Port Vale are hosting Cambridge United today in their final game of the season before rejoining League Two next season. The plane circled the ground several times ahead of kick-off.
